Okay I finally did it I blended my coffee with coconut oil and grass-fed butter and it tasted a lot better than I expected, in fact I thought it was yummy, but I bet you are all wondering why I did this. I’ve read a lot about how coconut added to our daily diet has many benefit one way to do this was to add it to your morning beverage (coffee, tea, chai) whatever you like to drink. Unfortunately it was a bit unpalatable so someone thought of adding grass-fed butter and blending it together.
Now let’s go through the ingredients:
- The coffee~ the coffee should be fair-trade and preferably organic lower quality coffee can contain mycotoxins a fungus that is found in all coffee but in much lower amounts in quality coffee.
- The coconut oil~ this should be unrefined virgin and preferably organic. I picked up Dr. Bronner’s Virgin Coconut Oil at whole foods but you can buy from most health food stores or Amazon.com as well.
- The butter~ butter from grass-fed cows is a must because it has more benefits than grain fed. Grass-fed butter is high in vitamin-K2, the nutrient that decalcifies your arteries and reduces your risk of osteoporosis.
I noticed that when I took the coconut oil my throat got a little itchy , like the beginning of a sore throat, but went away when I was done with drinking it. I did a bit of research and found an article about it. It seems that coconut oil particularly extra virgin has oleocanthal (also found in extra virgin olive oil) a powerful natural anti inflammatory, this has been known to cause what some people describe as a burning sensation in their throat. So try some butter and coconut oil in your coffee and tell me how you like it.
